I posted on here a couple of months ago explaining my situation regarding my cob and his disappeared, vanished into thin air owners. Essentially I've had cob on full loan for nearly 8 years and despite nagging continuously the owners never handed over the passport. Last time I saw the owners was over 3 years ago when I had to discuss moving yards and was then informed they had lost the passport. Haven't heard anything since. I have text, rung, emailed them wanting a new passport to be sent out and wanted to discuss treatment options with them when he was lame but nothing. No replies. Not a word. Magically vanished.

The vet agreed to vaccinate him without seeing the passport and will just keep his own record of it. I discussed my problem with the vet and he adviced that after 3 years of nothing from them, just to 'assume ownership' and apply and get a new one. His words were 'I personally don't care you don't have one, but the authorities do'.

So is the best option just to apply for a new one and have me listed as owner? If not, I'm a bit stuck as the vet agreed that if I rang the Passport Agency they won't provide any details on cob or provide a duplicate to make up for the lost one.

I hate ignorant disappearing owners.

I personally wouldn't dream of putting it into my ownership, with no agreement of it.

I've never even met the owners of one of mine and had him 5 years now. Still wouldn't dream of getting him changed into my name with no agreement to.

Probably not the answer you want.

If you know his reg name/Passport issuer, then maybe ring them up and ask for a duplicate to be sent out. They should do this no problem for a price. Or, if you want a passport, I'd get one [though remember you'll need microchip etc done now as he probably wasn't done over 8 years ago as it wasn't a legal requirement then], but still have it in their name. [Even though I know passport isn't proof of ownership blah blah blah.]
