Yesterday I found myself a horse to part loan/share 3/4 days a week. What happens if I get asked to see the passport on one of my days?

Officially if asked you have three hours to produce the passport.

My advice would be to take the original to a solicitor and get him to duplicate it and sign and date it as a true certified copy. That means that you could have a copy of it, which you could produce if asked to do so.

You now need the passport for any veterinary treatment to prove that the horse will not go in to the food chain and therefore drugs can be administered which would otherwise be banned if the horse could enter the human food chain. You also now need a passport if you are traveliing your horse in a trailer or lorry.

The only time you don't need it with you is if you are out hacking

) i didnt get asked for mine by the vet yet he;s supplied drugs which would be for a horse not destined to enter the food chain. as it happens the horse is excluded, but i didnt get asked the question or for the passport!
