Just bought a lovely new horse.....However when he arrived he did not have his passport with him. After a few messages from the seller saying she would send it.....it has never arrived. It also was not available when the vet came down to vet him. I have however got his microchip number as the vert scanned it when doing the vetting. From this is there any way i can track his passport or if he ever had one??? I don't mind getting a new one for him i just know its illegal to re register a horse for a new passport if he already has one. he is only 4 so unsure. any advice or help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Sounds suspicious to me! If you can get the seller to tell you who the passport was registered with then you can get another.

It does sound suspicious. Keep on at her and threaten to report her if she doesn't provide you with the passport or at least who the horse is registered with.

Remember it's illegal to sell and transport without a passport but it's not illegal to buy. Did you buy unseen?

I tried him once and was not there for vetting however arranged it independently of seller. I was in and out the country when he came down hence why bit rushed. Is there a way of tracing horse passports through the gov?? Anyone I can contact ?? As I said I have microchip number. Do you need a passport to have a microchip number? Seller has gone of the radar! Will report is necessary just want to resolve problem first! Thanks for help so far!

Since Dec 2009 all horses need to be microchipped and have a passport.

There's a link on the DEFRA site to the list of passport issuing organisations, you could try contacting them with his name and microchip no. Is he registered with a breed society or CHAPS?

You'll be able to get a duplicate passport from the PIO.
