So, I want to buy a horse and have seen her passport. The owner that i'm buying from now doesn't have her name on the passport. She offered to show me the passport and when I questioned her about not having her name down, she said that she had no idea how to change it so just left it. The vaccinations bit has details relevant to her as the area she is in is different to the country that the previous owner was in. So i'm thinking that given that she offered to show me the passport, she really didn't know what was going on with the change of ownership side. Am I being naive? Are passports there to show ownership details? Agh so confused!

Passport isn't proof of ownership. I wouldn't worry. My horse didn't have her owner on the passport either. It was still in the breeders name she just never bothered to chang it. Only had the horse a few months :)

Cool! And thanks :D

Do they contact the previous owner on the passport when you ask for change of ownership? I guess i'm most worried about the horse being stolen or sold when on loan? I'm so cynical eek

I just sent them a copy of my receipt from the lady I bought from and the passport and they changed it. Don't think they got in touch with the breeder. They might have done though. Breeder was AHT so would have been easily done.

i havent got my name on either of my boys passport,
the one horse has no previouse owners on it at all, just jabs and stuff.
the other doesnt have the previouse owners but the one before that.
i too dont know how to go about in changing or adding my details on to one:o

I didnt have a change of ownership form nor a receipt of sale, although I could have proved this as it was a bank transfer, and AES re-issued the passport without any questions.

It seems passports more a form of identity and vaccination history rather than a horsey logbook.
