Iam a tad confused.... I've just been sent Pennys passport, change of address and ownership I can just about cope with, but as Penny has been micro chipped I have to change the address of that too....
So, I rang up the number, only to be told they don't deal with 'these kind of chips', can't access the details but gave me a contact number...
So, I rang the number only to be told that I have to send the form in (recorded message) --- WHAT FORM, I don't have a form... then the recorded message goes on to state I have to have something signed, and a hand written letter and sent to *insert very quickly read out address*... after 3 attempts, I've got the address, Anibase in York... but all this sounds like a performance and a half.
Question is, can I not change the micro chip ''owner'' and therefore don't do the anibase thing? The original number I rang up would have just changed the details on the computer, and Anibase seem, ummm, 'different', I think I have to pay £6, but again that was very rusty and iam not sure if I've got the jist of it!!... Are they good?

(ps, should say this is my first experience of micro-chipped ponies!)

Sorry, actually Anibase is the central database (having a blonde day today).
If you can give me the start of the chip number I can find out who (which company) chipped her

Ok...
Just spoken to them.
You have to send them a letter informing them that you have bought Penny (date etc) and would like the chip (include the chip number) changed to hold your details.
They then contact the old owner to check horse is not stolen. Penny would then be changed to your name. If owner does not respond, they will change it after 28 days.

Ah Joeanne you're a star! I've just bought an ISH. She's passported (which I have) and chipped, but I only have the number which is in her passport, but no paperwork, so no idea who even did it!

Quick ques, just to check. If I write to that address too.... will they be able to help even though the horse was chipped in Ireland?

No. Sadly there are lots of different "makes" of chip. You need to know who was the chipping company.
If you have the first three digits and the letters preceeding and after the chip I can tell you the company (unless its like Ruthnmegs and an anibase chip in which case yes!)

I have no letters either.... it just says chip no.... 372141.......198 It's printed into the passport rather than stuck in. does that mean anything?
