Just bought a horse whose passport is with Weatherbys. I rang the number in the passport to inform them of change of ownership and they said he has to be microchipped. Currently he isn't. Is this usual nowadays? My other horse is freezemarked & Hanoverian has his brand.

from my understanding all new passports have to be microchipped but a change of ownership it doesn't matter?

He's 12 and previous owner had him since he was 5. He is IDXTB so definitely NOT a racehorse. I'm quite happy to have him chipped but just wondered if this was the norm. The passport rules seem to change so often I have absolutley no idea. Haven't had a new horse for a while now.

Great thanks for that Orsolya80. Think I'll have another word tomorrow and see why they want him chipped. Still not a huge problem, but nice to know where I stand.
