Just bought new horsey, can't for life of me remember what I did when I bought my last horse regarding his passport. I know where I'm sending it and how much it costs but what else do I need to do???

You need to let the PIO (passport issuing office) know that ownership has changed. For example, my gelding has an Arab Horse Society passport and I needed to send it to them, with a cheque and the ownership transfer form signed by myself and his breeder. They then updated the details and sent it back to me.

Look up the PIO of your horse's passport and it should say on their website what you need to do. :)

Thanks. I spoke to the office and they said I just needed to send passport and cheque. But how will the know I purchased her? Surely if I only need to send in passport and cheque then I could loan a horse and shove my name down as the owner. Oh, I'm Confused. Think I better ring them again!!

What is the PIO?

Some aren't that bothered about proof of ownership, they just change the details as requested. The passport isn't proof of ownership anyway, but some are hot on the change of ownership details partly to help protect the rightful owner.

Last time I think I had to provide receipts but that was STAGBI. Not sure tho. It's a non registered equine passport issued by dartmoor pony soc. Mare is irish x tb
