I have an out of date passport, and an EU medical card, and a UK driving licence [original paper type], will I be OK flying Ryanair to UK to Dublin, where there is passport control.
I am getting some doubts, "it will probably be OK" is not definative. Ryanair only seem to have one person on their helpline, so it might take a while to get an answer.

Update : I am number 52 in the online chat queue, so will be getting an answer soon, they close in 36 minutes!

we had to show passports when we went to dublin from southend with ryanair last year

Yes, i use my passport as my photo ID, which they like, and an EU citizen can travel accross the borders with an acceptable photo ID, not necessarily a valid passport.
It is just Ryanair who may be sticky, they can put any flight conditions they like, and I am not sure if they need a passport, I still have a passport number, which I assume does not change, a bit like my NInsurance number.

In my experience, Ryanair have always been very strict when flying out of Edinburgh to Dublin - it's a valid passport or you don't fly. If it was Flybe or any other airline, you might be able to explain your circumstances, but Ryanair don't tend to negotiate, but hopefully someone on the phone can help you.

Phew, well done for double-checking well before the flight! A friend recently applied for a new passport and got it within 3 weeks. I'm sure you'll get it quickly too. (You probably know that you can alternatively get it within a few hours or 1 week if you apply in person, but you've got to pay good money for the privilege!) https://www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently

I complained to my bro about his misleading advice [he travels a lot], apparently he is not responsible for Ryanair!
.... AND it is my fault for allowing my passport to lapse!........... I have not been abroad since 1980!
