if a horse has come from abroad, should it have a British passport or a passport from its country of origin? I am looking at buying a horse who was bred in Argentina, then went to Holland, and has now come over here - and he has a passport from Holland. Is this right?

My pony lives here in Canada, she came over with us from England on her English passport and she does not have a Canadian passport, although I could apply for one for her if I wanted to.

I would have expected the horse to have an Argentinian passport being the country of origin, however he could have been given a Dutch passport after he arrived in Holland? The original Argentinian passport may have been lost or misplaced on arrival?

As Tia said i would of thought it to have an Argentinian Passport, but as long as it has one (with correct markings etc) im sure this is fine.

My mare was bred in Germany but was shipped to the UK two years ago. She has a German passport.

The law regarding passports is a European law. Horses coming from outside EU may not have passports - but come in under health export papers. This also applies to horses coming from USA. Passports then must be applied for within 30 days of arrival. It is possible that your horse did not have a passport in Argentina. The passport would then have been obtained in the UK.
