I have registered Inky with a mini society and they wont include his breeding on his registration certificate unless i have DNA tests done despite a letter from his breeder and his breeding being on his passport. They have replied to me in an email the following:-

Sorry to have taken so long to reply to your e-mail but I have now spoken to our Chairman regarding the breeding details for your stallion.

Unfortunately we are unable to accept a letter from his breeder as this does not meet with DEFRA criteria. The only way that his breeding could now be accepted and verified would be by DNA testing, which costs £50.00 per horse.

Yes, a wagonload of codswallop, but they seem to be able to make up the rules as they go along. I wanted to register a PBA/PBW before I left Wales and had the same clap trap and money requests, despite having letters from the breeder, copies of covering slips etc.

I think a lot of Societies do now want DNA though, suspicious bunch, although, I suppose one could actually say a horse is by anything you fancied really.

I have no idea about DEFRA, sorry.

Does he absolutely have to be registered with this particular mini Society? Not IMHPS is it?

No he is already registered with IMHPS and they have accepted his breeding from the breeder. This is the BMHS. What makes me laugh is i could pull any horses mane out and send it!!

If he is registered does he really need his breeding verified, can you not just show him as registered, or do showing rules dictate otherwise?

Unfortunately even if what they are saying is rubbish it matters little, if you want to register with that society then you'll have to comply with their requirements & pay for the test.

Yes i can show him without the breeding but for breeding purposes he will go down as breeding unknown and he has fantastic bloodlines which will obviously be beneficial and hopefully assist in getting him girlfriends!!
