I've just found out that 4 of my horse's passports are, according to the DEFRA regulations, not quite right.
To clarify, they are SHB Stud book Passports. They all have a registration number but as they were issued before the DEFRA laws they are missing the SHB Passport Issuing Number (6 digits). Of course SHB will upgrade my passports - For a fee
Technically they're not quite legal but would you bother to get them changed?

I thought I may not be the only one. Also to make matters worse, the horse I just sold, her passport was the same. Apparently to be correct it should be 6 no's / then 9 no's

Oh god better check ours!!!
Isn't there a 15 digit individual horse identification number?

Hmm well to answer ur Q, prob yes (but if really expensive to change prob no!!! cheap skate!!!). DEFRA can do very strange things at time and u don't wanna end up in trouble.
Or yes if competeing lots, but if just for hacking then no.
Sorry rambling lots!!!

surely a its worth spending a few quid rather than being fine £2k per horse or whatever the penalty is???

I have a valid document, issued by a valid authority - It's unlikey that any sort of fine would be levied just because it may be out of date.

If those passports were issued before the new rules came in, they will already have a unique number to them even though it's not the 'correct length'! Weatherbys until recently only gave one shortish number; now they give a number and UELN combined. Imagine how many TB's there are with only the short numbers, can bet your bottom dollar people won't be rushing to change them!
TBH, if they have the medical section included (for or not human consumption) then I wouldn't bother changing them at all; they have their identity number on, that should be sufficient. If you originally sent them back to have those pages added then it should have been picked up there by SHB, they should have been aware of the defra ruling and automatically updated them so they are to blame as much as anyone else to be fair.

I've just looked at my passports! Those before 97/98, only had passport numbers, those after 99 have passport and life No's. then after 06, possibly before it is called passport & UELN. I remember having to send an old one for the medical pages to be added and they didn't alter her number at all. Swallow's is a 98 National Pony Society one and she has six letters, four numbers as her passport number! Confusing eh?!

Mmm, my first thought was that I'd have to get them changed. Second thought was WHY? At least mine have passports and unless there are more checks carried out then whats the point?
Still undecided though

Ah, thank you so much AmyMay. She's one I bred and had to make the very, very difficult decision to sell. She's is very pretty and quite unusual

She's got 4 full white spotty socks to match her face

I agree with what your saying, but they don't have the part re human consumption

Ah! So you missed sending them in to be updated, that will be why they want to charge you now then as it was free at the time to be updated. Their version of a slapped wrist maybe?!

Yes......A fellow liveries insurance company refused to payout when her horse would PTS as she didn't have a passport (I assume they could use an incorrect passport as an excuse not to pay out too).

passports r gr8 idea (i think), but no-one seems to know whats meant to b in/recorded (obv vacc) there! hve only eva had my horses checked at be events and for overstamping, just hope mine r right aswell

Echo the others. It was well documentetd at the time that all ID would need to be updated. It normally costs no more than £10, if that
