Passports

HH's thread has reminded me. I meant to post about this a while ago. Over the last 2 or 3 months, I know of one broodmare and 2 weanlings that have arrived in this country from Germany, WITHOUT passports!! Passports arrived by courier about a month after these horse arrived. I also know of a filly, that was transported from England to Ireland, WITHOUT a passport!! So I ask you, WHAT is the point in them?

Also, I know of several fillies that have arrived from France, WITHOUT a coggins test! They aren't supposed to be unloaded without a Coggins test (Equine Infectious Anemia).

WHAT is going on?? Makes me MAD!!!

Well look at EI in Australia - shipping horses is lax.

But those horse had to go through quarantines and flew - these were in lorries, but NO passports? It's supposed to illegal FFS!!

I didn't post besause I am not surprised it is happening, nobody really cares about the horse industry. We are all rich so we can afford to mop up their mistakes.

Ditto Thistle and I was just going to bed when I saw this anyway. At my age, I need my sleep!

My local transporters, no way in this wide world will they travel anything without a passport now; it's just not worth all the agro' they could be in which would affect their livelihood from the DoT.; they would lose too much business transporting to/from the races/sales as well by a stupid mistake.
The 'immigration' checks that used to be made at Holyhead/Dublin/Dun Laoghaire consisted of checking how many horses on board at Holyhead; over the other side you'd have to wait for the vet to check them over before you could board the ferry. Passports were never checked to match with the beasts!

It doesn't surprise me that horses are getting into this country at all without papers, especially if they are ferried in from the continent, but you know yourself all the faff that goes into quarantine from this country; can you imagine your stud enabling one to step foot onto your land without the right paperwork in place and to hand for export? Surely they'd lose their licence to be an exporting station if they did that.
Typically, it's one rule for us and another for foreigners and it makes me so mad too, we are being penalised for their shoddy behaviour.
