Passports

Do the previous owners get notified when the old horse gets reregistered?

Its just I sold a horse but didn't get any notification from licensing authority and I seemed to think I would. Does it mean they haven't reregistered?
 
When my mare was PTS I was not even asked to give in my passport.....strange!

Surely though, if for example you loaned a horse and they sold it, by notifying you you may actually have a chance of finding him?

Is it up to the individual bodies?

Crikey, you even get notified if you sell your car!

When I had mine put to sleep the vet obviously put in the passport the medication administered. I asked about the passport and was told I had to return it to Passport office as it says inside somewhere. Which I did.

My last horse had a passport but it had not been updated by the then owner. All I had to do to change into my name was to send to issuing authority with a covering letter.

Its a stupid system with no security or checks as far as I can see.
 
PIO's vary in how they deal with this. For instance, HPA send the recorded owner a form to ask for confirmation of selling the animal, some provide a form which must be completed by the registered owner, and new forms will not be sent out (DBS & PetID), others just make the change on receipt of the Passport.
 
i must say it was very worrying when I sent my new boy's passport off to have me put down as the new owner, it was a bsja one and all i had to do was fill in a form - my details and send it with £10 for them to change it, sent it wed, received it Fri so it was all done in a day so no chance of them checking that he was mine and they didn't want my bill of sale!! I believe though that the Sports Horse GB passports are different and if you have no bill of sale they will contac the previous owner as there is a form that the seller must complete in order for them to change the details.
 
Horse Passport Agency will contact the previous registered keeper before transferring owbnership to you.
