Why would you?

sorry, just realised i didn’t specify it was given as a treat, and is given in the same manner in italy supposedly!

so for the same reason any other treat is given i presume - definitely can’t see what it would bring nutritionally given as a regular part of the diet in high quantities haha

If it’s not made with eggs, it’s essentially just flour and water, so why not. Each country has its own treats - wouldn’t dream of giving a horse a polo (UK) or sour patch kid (US) in France, but a sugar cube was common in my childhood (seems to have gone out of fashion thankfully, we now stick to dry bread and carrots…)

Uncooked flour is bad for humans but no idea if the same applies to horses. That said, as children my brothers and I used to grab a piece of dry spaghetti when my mother was cooking and a small amount probably wouldn’t harm a horse sized stomach. Cheaper than buying commercial treats! Not that I’m going to try it, although my horses do like an occasional ginger biscuit.

it actually didn’t even occur to me that dry pasta is bad for us, what a muppet??‍♀️? in my defence i don’t make a habit of snacking on it lmao.

my mare always has a pack of ginger biscuits in her xmas stocking lol

Does nobody give uncooked but soaked grains, like oats and barley, to horses?

The difference between that and uncooked flour is just the removal of bran, isn't it?

Plain pasta, not egg pasta, is just flour and water, but the water is only there to make a dough that is easy to shape, then it is dried. So in the end, a bit of fusilli is just wheat flour.

If the only difference between feeding raw but soaked grains and dry food is the risk of a horse gorging on the dry food, then drinking water that makes that dry food swell in its stomach, then I think that a couple of fusilli is not a problem.

From observation, I'm certain that what the horse really likes is the crunchy texture of the dry pasta. I've seen horses pick up chunks of ice to crunch on them.

My friend eats dry pasta all the time ? I May have to show her this ?

I do this too. My mam used to roar at me for it when I was little, saying I'd end up in hospital and they'd think she didn't cook for us ? it's delicious. I am talking small quantities though, not like a bowl of dry pasta with bolognese ?

Maybe it’s something I need to try! Seems to be loved by people?
