Right, I know nothing about this, so bare with me, pastern arthritis as a result of trauma, diagnosis four years old. Horse rested and came sound and normally ridden with wraps and then has bio flow boots put on. She has been out on loan but looks set to come home. Has been and is currently shod, when discussing with her owner how she would be managed when she comes home (as I will be helping with her for the foreseeable). We discussed the possibility of BF, owner says that she goes quite long in the toe barefoot, and that currently she has remedial farriery to ensure her heels are not at the wrong angle.
Now, to my mind, bf would theoretically wear in a way that would provide the best angles for supporting the leg wouldn't it? Although I must admit I know sod all about pastern arthritis, the mare has been sound up until the last couple of weeks, the only change being that her new rider wasn't using the wraps and boots, consequently she is coming home where she can be properly taken care of.
Anyway, is bf an option for pastern arthritis? Is the arthritis the probable cause for not wearing the hind toes down? With regards to BF, if this is an option, is there anything particular one should know when going bf with pastern arthritis?
