Pastern / coronet band problem??

I went to do my horse last monday to find him very lame in the field on his left fore. There was heat in his pastern and a small 'graze' on his coronet band. The vet ame out and prescribed antibiotics and said to keep it clean and dry but that he was ok to stay in the field. My horse has been on antibiotics for a week now (he finished the course yesterday morning) and he is sounder not 100% sound though. Since Saturday he has had small open sores open up just above the coronet band. He isnt't bother by them and you can poke them. I have tried polticing it and although it didnt stay on brilliantly, I didnt seem to change the 'sores'. Help!! Is this an absess coming out or has he knocked his pastern/coronet band and it's bruising coming out?? Probably a vet job I know, but he's cost me a small fortune so far........!!
 
Sounds like coronitis. Often when the horse suffers trauma to the leg or foot the coronary band will react in this fashion; excuding serum/blood. The coronary band can become slightly swollen and hot. I have had a few horses have this condition and have used an antibiotic/antiseptic cream rubbed onto the area a couple of times a day. It generally clears up fairly rapidly.
