Quick query to see if anyone has any useful advice or tips for me.......
I got my boy in from the field last night and he was hopping lame! He was literally hopping in on 3 legs. Needless to say I panicked quite alot!! Once i got him in and washed his legs off, picked out feet etc (couldn't do other front hoof as he wouldn't weight bear on sore leg).... I couldn't find anything wrong but a bit of heat in his left fore pastern. It wasn't hot as such, just signifcantly warmer than the other one. There is no swelling. I put on an ice bandage for a while, then put ice gel on the area overnight. He was putting weight on all 4 legs by them time i left last night..... a bit of pampering seemed to make a rather large difference.
This morning he is much improved, still a bit lame when i walked him out, but nothing like last night. I have left him in with a deep bed and big haynet, and more ice gel on. I considered letting him out for a short time this afternoon in a dry area of the field if he's only slightly uneven like this morning. He is not a charge about horse most of the time, he is more likely to graze quietly.
Does anyone have any further suggestions??
Thanks!
Ps forgot to say he is a big ex chaser, sightly wimpy tb.
