Just a quick update, some may remember he was being scoped last week due to breathing problems well the results came back today. He has some sort of allergy (not what I needed to hear I was hoping for a nice simple bacterial infection

) so he is being allergy tested on Friday then has to have inhaled steroids via a mask. (I'm so not looking forward to that) After that who knows

Am feeling very down about it all at the moment, I know it could be a lot worse but he goes from barely being able to walk out without coughing badly to just heaving at trot and I so wanted an easy solution.

Thank you - I think I will feel better once I have seen how he is going to be with the mask. He does think I am constantly trying to kill him though, worming is a nightmare.

The inhaling steroids thing isn't too bad... a pony on our yard had it done and he was great with it because it was quite simple.

Fingers crossed that you find out what he is allergic to

Thank you - the thing is this is Patrick, the simplest things are never simple with him although he may surprise me. Even the vet said 'hmm this is Patrick, well its usually simple with other horses'!
To be fair he had a fairly horrific time last year with an operation and laminitis and now he thinks whatever you are going to do will hurt him.

In that case, I would put the mask on a few times without any squirting etc etc and just let him chill in it... at least he might start to relax about the whole thing and make your life a bit easier.

Let's hope you get to the bottom of it and that Patrick doesn't totally hate the mask. I think I remember reading about a section A who needed a nebuliser but was still shown with huge success, I can't for the life of me remember the name or specific results but it just goes to show its not the end of the world...

I was going to ask but didn't as I hadn't been on and didn't want to put my foot in it.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you both, I hope he is OK. My older horse had a non-specific allergy and we managed it with rubber matting, paper bedding, soaked hay and haylage and lots of turnout. He had good days and bad but mostly good.
Keep positive

Thank you everyone, he is very happy in himself (and cheeky) so thats one thing. The tests are booked for tomorrow so fingers crossed. The main reason I am worried is that he is turned out for 10 hours a day and is on shavings and soaked hay already. I'll keep you informed and if anyone feels like a workout, the vet is coming at 1pm tomorrow so all help gratefully received

I need to get my body armour out of storage.
