Me and my mum went to one of the dog homes today

and they had this lovely Patterdale called Bobby.
He is 18 months old and was brought in due to the owner having cancer so could no longer look after him.

He is quite nervous, but after spending quite a lot of time with us he got a little brave and enjoyed having a cuddle

.

I do not know much about the breed - are they quite nice pets or are they more of a working dog?

Advice would be good as my mum is going back to see him tomorrow

It really depends how its been brought up, if its been kenneled it may be difficult to house train him. They are all good ratters.

PM Enfys, she had one as a pet, I only know of working patts so couldn't say.

Sounds a sweetie though!

Ahh thanks for that - I did Google them, and I will not tell my mum what it said

It said they love to digg all the time, and they are not very good off the lead as they chase everything even foxes

!!

And it did say they are quite difficult to train

I am sure he will be a lovey dog - my dad is going to meet him tomorrow so we will see what he thinks lol

Hi, we have a Patterdale as a pet (& a border terrier), he is really loyal and loving, the only thing is he doesn't always like other dogs when out on a walk, he can be either really calm and friendly or like a piece of rubber on the end of his lead yapping excitedly, we don't let them off the lead if near other dogs just in case, and we also don't have a nice level lawn any more - it's full of holes!!!!!!! He can run really fast and jump high

. He can be a sensitive little dog too sometimes if I shout at the kids he will cower and I have to reassure him he hasn't done anything wrong
crazy.gif
, we would have another without question, hope that helps.

Thank you for your response - I think my mum will give it a miss with him

!!

I have been reading on the internet about them and my mum and dad like there garden very much!!!

They seem to be very active dogs and for my mum and dad to have one as there first pet its not going to be a good idea!

If you do want another one PM me as I will give you the details of this one that is looking for a home.

He is lovely, but very thin and hates having his back touched for some reason, and hates being picked up
confused.gif
or are they all like that?

I just think he will be to sharp for my mum and dad.

Thanks for the advice.xx

From the only experience I have had of a friends too, they are adorable, love attention but quickly go deaf on walks, can go off the lead but you have to be very patient till they come back! Hers didn't dig but did chew but then again they were left alone quite a bit,
