My showjumper has started pawing in the horsebox the whole time. While travelling, waiting before competing and after competing, and he never paws when i take him out. He has pulled off shoes by doing this and it really annoys me and my family.
Some people have suggested travelling boots. Would these prevent his pawing problem??
I have never seen a horse like him before!!

MY horse (a very young 4 yr old) started doing this today while we were in a lesson standing talking to the instructor. she is a good dressage judge and instructor and she said dont let them to that smack them once on the shoulder and very quickly say no to supriose them. It is bad manners and can lead to impatience, rearing etc basically escalating uintil they get thier own way. impatient. I then had to stand mounted and watch the next 40 min lesson and she had to behave.

My horse paws in the lorry, if he does it while we're in traffic, I dab the brakes, makes him put his feet down, quite funny when you rock up somewhere and the entire lorry is booming from his pawing

I've taught him to shake a paw when I tell him, so now it's kind of 'work' for him, also, it makes him hold his foot in the air rather than constantly slamming it down, which can't be good for his legs

Sometimes I walk back to the lorry and I can smell the steel scraping on concrete

No real solution, other than he does it much less now than when he was young
