Pax horse calmer

Pax works in a very particular way and is best with unhandled or genuinely scared/wary/spooky animals who have a genuine natural fear of something. Its not a calmer in the general sense of the word as you dont use it on the animal. Ive used it in the past and found it helpful in situations where I am a little worried for my own safety (ie unhandled colts) but never for a loading issue.

Hmmm...I don't think the horse in question is scared, but he can be rather strong on the ground which makes loading him hard, so I was wondering if this might be worth trying, rather than a magnesium based calmer.

Its worth a try but to be honest Id be looking at Mag. I use Equine America Magnitude which is very, very cost effective and does seem to help. Other than that maybe one of the herbal ones .... FireworX is good.

I bought it cause I had a pony which had previously been abused and 5 years on she was still nervous at times. She hated it and wouldnt come near me. My other horses hated it too and snorted at me like I was the scariest thing they had seen/smelt! Not sure if its cause I didnt smell like me or if it was the Pax.

Give it a go though and let us know if your horse likes it!

Every so often I am tempted to try it again and see what reaction I get.

I bought some but have to say it didn't help in any way shape or form. Then the top leaked and it all ran out in my jacket pocket which then absolutley stunk for ages!!

I have just ordered some of this for my polo pony, she was mistreated when she was younger (backed and broken in Argentina!) and is still very very nervous around men, she loves kids though, so i am hoping it will help her to relax around them a bit more. Also a friend of mine has a horse that is really head shy so i may give it a go with him, will let you know. Though after the previous posts i wont be holding my breath!!!!

This is spooky, I searched Pax last night and couldn't find anything, so ordered it anyway.
My horse is genuinely scared of 'EVERYTHING' when she hasn't got a headcollar on.She is not a problem at all when ridden but do have to put bridle on in bits.
Problem is she's lost the headcollar and I can not get near her with even a piece of string.
Have tried brewers yeast, is now on mag ox and altho she isn't as 'tickly' when touched she seems to be even more spooky.
Emailed Natural Horse Supplies to see which of their varoius calming remedies they might recommend as I got the mag ox from them and surprising they said they didn't think anything would work and to get an NH person to her.
I am prepared to try anything now as she is getting worse (is 12 and I've had her a year)
My vet (who is also the local zoo vet) has said he will dart her so that we can put the headcollar on- but that would be a last resort for me.

So- to cut a long story short- I'll let you know about the Pax- hopefully it will arrive tomorrow

Depending on why the horse is difficult you may find a chifney helpful (never thought I would say THAT!!) We had a 17.3 horse to move who was incredibly strong on the ground, used to just take off and there was no stopping him. I asked a local horse transporter to move him for us after the first aborted 'mission' (after being dragged away from the box about 6 times), he told me to buy a chifney and he would come and load him for me rather than me having to pay for the move. He came out and loaded him within a couple of minutes. I have never used it and didn't want to myself because I have never used one before and you should really know what you are doing with it but the horse was caused absolutely no distress, he just knew it was there and was different I think, he certainly didn't even try to take off. He did however go on to try and climb out of the box window and to kick the sides out of the box which made for an interesting journey!! He had travelled to us in an equitrek box from the sales, we were told he wouldn't go on a trailer but would box ok and he went on perfectly but he didn't like our box at all.
