Saw a feature in H&H and wondered if anyone's got one? Are they worth the money? Seems very expensive and I could pick up a water butt from B&Q that could do the job for £20! But I like the idea that it's insulated so come winter won't freeze.

I suspect it will still freeze in the very cold weather. It says frost proof which id read to be different?
Have you seen Hay cubes? Might not be what your after but worth a look.

I've thought about the hay cube but I have a youngster that trashes everything in his stable and didn't want to fork out £100 just for a toy! I might see how things go this winter :)

Ah yes I see your point!
Im trying to plan how I can cut down a wheelie bin, whilst still having the handle on the back to tow round and add a plug as the base to drain.
My O/H says he can get some stuff that is used to cover sharp edges so plan is to cover the cut part which I, (or he will cut ;) ) with a small angle grinder so its safe.
Then I will have a wheeled pull-able soaker that I can take to the tap to fill, then to the drain to empty and to the stable to feed. I imagine the same could be done but put a hay net in instead of loose hay which I intend to do as my horse wont bother with it in his stable.
Of course this wont be insulated in any way but im hoping will save my back this winter.

Taps can be fitted to wheelie bins for drainage. Once drained hay is easier to lift out.
I put a length of hose down into the bottom of mine before adding hay and water, (securing the other end up by threading it round the handle in 2 loops) the water can be siphoned out at end of soaking time. I don't soak in nets but transfer drained hay into a barrow for distribution. Allow time for siphoning with that (cheap) method.

A soak/feeder is no good to me as I would need so many to allow for one to be soaking and another in use feeding.

Thanks for the ideas! I am toying with the idea of a wheelie bin, or some sort of container that I should stick a tap in to drain the water.
