I had decided to focus on show jumping and dressage, with a bit of eventing thrown in. So I am a PAYG member. But Norton Disney reminded me that NOTHING compares to eventing in my view! And so I will probably do a few more than I planned. Plus I don't want to be ballotted out, I want to support the sport. And I want MERS, so that I have the option of stepping up one day if I ever feel brave enough. So I might do more BEs than I planned.

The website is (of course) infuriating and I can;t see prices for full membership for exising members. It just says 'ring the office to upgrade your membership' But no-one is answering. It looks like lots of 'introductory offers' might not apply which is a bit annoying if you get memerbship cheap as a newbie and are not rewarded for loyalty! I've been a member for years in various ways, including full. (Insurance companies do that too. It annoys me everytime!)

Does anyone know how much an upgrade from PAYG costs and how many runs I'd need before it is cheaper or similar to PAYG? TIA x

You need to do more than 9 PAYG to make full membership pay off. Also no plans for regional finals. I am on PAYG and been fine. My plan is if I got the Q for RF then would do half season membership. It slightly less on the 80/90 membership.

One thing to note with the PAYG membership is you don't get ballot stickers and are at the bottom of the pile in terms of balloting so if you're wanting to do popular events that ballot then you may need to do the full membership.

I've gone for PAYG membership this year with the plan that I can upgrade to full membership if needed. I'm pretty sure BE said that if you've paid the fee for PAYG and then you paid for full membership then the full membership would be the difference between PAYG and full not the entire amount.

Eta - I hadn't been aware before I entered my first event that PAYG have an extra £10 PAYG fee for each event so it does make it that bit more expensive.

I've just done a GoBE entry and was surprised how easy it was!
I'll look at 'proper' BE next year but will be PAYG as I rarely do more than 6 events/season anyway.
