When buying a horse. When would you pay? immediately after its vetted or upon collection?

although I would say, having heard of people taking up to a MONTH between vetting and collecting a horse, if I was selling may well ask to be paid in an appropriate time scale and possibly also ask for livery expenses in such cases!!!!

If I don't know the seller deposit on agreement with I specify what is to happen to the horse ie no more viewing no hunting that sort of thing then balance on collection . If I know the seller I just give a cheque when I pick it up.
Mind I don't hang around last one tried on Thursday vetting Friday picked up Saturday.

A month!!! I had to wait 3 days and it nearly killed me!

Visited/tried out on the Tuesday night. Put deposit down.
Vetted Friday.
Delivered Monday!

One horse we travelled a long way to see and left half as a "deposit" and sent the rest with the transport upon collection. Another horse we did the more normal deposit and then paid on collection, local. I imported a youngster recently from the continent and I wired the money for him about two weeks before he actually arrived!

Horse I just sold was viewed twice then sold subject to vetting. I didn't ask for a deposit as the buyer seemed like an honest, straightforward person, which she was.

The horse stayed in the field! And no more viewings, although I did leave the adverts up until she was sold proper.

Vetting was successful and they paid me (cash) in full the same day, collected two days later.

I paid for both of mine when they had been delivered to me. No money left my hands until the horses were in my stable!

ive just bought a horse i got her on friday. i had them keep her a week. a day after i said i would have her i paid a £200 deposit towards her and so that she would be brought off the market. then i got a vets check and i paid the £1700 the day before she came in exchange with the passport. but i would of waited until arrival its just that i was at school and my parents were at work when she was dropped off at my local licery

Yup, heard of it happen on 2 occasions. The buyers went on holiday!
