Paying friend to ride horses

As most of your have prob read I'm having a bit of bad luck with del. well with me really due to some incompetent arse running into my car over 2 weeks ago I'm suffering with a displaced locked vertebra and I daren't ride until all is better. Del was bad enough on sat and nearly ended up being dragged which is not like him!!

I've been considering sending del away for some schooling, but after a chat with the lovely rudey I've now asked my friend if she can help out by riding him once a week for me and lunging him. We're yet to see if him and her get on but she's an extremely competent rider and since he's a dope i'm sure she'll be ok. I'm paying her for her time as she has 2 of her own that she sees too also, just wondered if anyone had any experince of this? Peple have mixed opinions, majority seem to think it's a good idea, I'm keen to try and bring him on as I'm struggling myself and he's had so much time off I want to get a head start, where as others are saying give him a longer break and wait until spring finally hits us. (or are being snobby about having someone else on my horse... um he's mine?!?)

This maybe a good solution for you regarding the exercising / schooling of your horse but be aware that as you are paying this person for her services you will be empolying her and you really need to check your staus regarding employers liability insurance / her own insurance ( if freelancing ) it is all very well until an accident occurs ( rider / horse / general public injured ) Just be careful ! and you have the dreaded Health & safety to consider !

Saying that you know your horse better than anyone and with the weather as it is at the moment would a few more weeks off make much difference ? With referance to somebody else riding Your horse - sometimes it's nice to have another angle on things especailly if she a good / experianced rider !

thank you!! yeah I have wondered about insurance etc but tbh she's a bit of a velcro rider as in her current riding horse can pack a good buck and rear and her semi-retired one is so spooky i'm amazed how she stays on! she said the only reason she's consider it is because of how dopey del is and we said we'd trial it for a bit and see how they get on. If she feels like they don't gel well or it's too much then she'll give up. Plus her boy is out of action for a while as he put his back out rearing so gives her something to ride!! Then she's said she can help me on the floor when I can eventually ride again!
