can someone please explain to this numpty how it works? I just sold a rug on ebay for 25.99- so do paypal take a fee from this?

If you log in to paypal, click the "fees" link right at the bottom of the page:
Receiving (Selling) for domestic payments
UK and other European Country* Standard rates:
3.4% + Fixed Fee 20p
So for your £25.99 you'll be charged £1.08 if my maths is right!

That explains the fees. It's normally not too much and I always use it for buying and selling with ebay. The money sits in your account until your withdraw it and then it usually takes about 5 working days to hit your bank.
You're also covered with paypal protection which is good for ebay and makes refunding etc. much easier.

Dont forget you will have a final value fee on Ebay as well.
