Please can I have your honest opinions on something - if someone turned up to a PC rally with their horse in draw reins or a market harborough (sp?) for flatwork would you see it as inappropriate (I can't think of a better word

)?

If it makes any difference I'm 16 (will be 17 by then), with my C+ but I'm not popular with the parents at all.

Thanks in Advance

I wouldn't send my 15yr old with her C+ with either, you are going for instruction and it may come over that you know better than the instructor. I would keep them for home or if you are having a private lesson.

Well it is with two different instructors one of which has suggested I use the gadgets as he is an ex - racer and needs to muscle before he can come round because atm he just gets wound up after so long because he can't hold it. Although the other I don't know so it could come across like jrp204 said.

Thanks again

Why do you need to wear Draw Reins or a Market Harborough in the first instance? What happened to basic schooling, rather than trying for "a quick fix" ? I don't suppose the Pony Club would accept a teenager wearing these seriously artificial aids at a Rally - but why not have a private discussion with the PC Instructor beforehand?

It's certainly not a 'quick fix' as you put it, I have been schooling him with the advice of various instructors for the past 2 years and he is perfectly capable at home just at new places he can get quite wound up and once he gets upset you have lost him for the rest of the lesson.

Thanks again for your opinion, I think it may be a better idea to book the arena and take him by myself after the rally.

Bring them, but don't put them on. Discuss with the instructor and they will see if they are needed. Draw reins are supposed to be a training aid, used for a while then no longer needed, not a necessity.

Thank you to all of you who have taken the time to reply, I really appreciate it and it's given me a very good indication of a whole cross section of opinions. After weighing up the pros and cons I have pulled my name off the list for the time being and I think I will take him to some less pressurised situations first and then go from there.

Thanks Again

FWIW I'd put your name back on the list, explain to the secretary or whoever organises the rallies and ask if you can speak to the instructor first. Ask their opinion of your taking your lad in his current state of schooling and whether they would be happy for you to attend like that - or just to bring the kit with you in case of need.

Might as well see what they say!
