From their website, for the eventing rules under tack section:

"b) Dressage only
i) Numnahs, saddlecloths or pads – only white, cream, navy blue, brown or black are permitted, with no logo. Any piping around the edge should be of the same colour."

Does that mean I can use one with a coloured binding around the outside, but not one with braiding on?

Or one with sheepskin stuck out the sides?

One colour all over I think, inc. binding, braiding, everything. Not sure about the sheepskin but plain whole-coloured saddlecloths & numnahs are so easy to get hold of, I wouldn't risk anything even remotely suspect! lol

The whole saddlecloth has to be the same colour- ie the braiding/piping cannot be black and the rest of the saddlecloth white.
They are strict as well! I once went to a PC 3 day event and had to ride with the horses browband inside out as it was a brass clencher and not plain!!

Yeah I remember PC being totally over the top about stupid things like that. I had an arguement over a saddlecloth once but in the end they let me ride with it. But jeez, who cares about the colour of a flipping saddlecloth!

Yep, I went to a PC dressage comp. once with an elevator bridle on complete with swarovski browband, it wasn't tacky only a small row of diamonds. I had to go back to the box and change it for a plain browband lol!!! I can just remeber thinking, they allow it in BD so why on earth can't you have one in PC, a little petty if you ask me, its not like it is going to make a huge difference on your perfromance!!! Ooh and for god sake don't turn up with a saddlecloth with your sponsor's name on it, they hate anything like that LOL!!! I would suggest extremely plain and no binding or anything then at least they can't make you change anything!!

I love how the tack checks are always done by somebody's mum, who know's the rule book inside out and will pick you up on the tiniest of things, I saw a mum going round measuring schooling whips before in the practise ring, how sad!!!!

Plain boring and traditionally correct.

Our PC is much more relaxed at rallies and training though. Tis only at comps they are strict. Safety rules are always strictly enforced though

ours sometimes stick to the rules and sometimes dont, one xc comp ash had her xc numnah on and another time they told her to take it off. i guess it depends who is doing the tack check.

. . . and then there are the pony clubs who seem to bend the rules for their own members but make visitors stick to them exactly. As a visitor my daughter was made to take off a very sedate navy blue numnah with narrow burgundy binding just before her round in the SJ and we were forced to buy a new plain coloured one for the XC. The rider after her, a member of the pony club hosting the event, went round both SJ and XC with navy XC numnah with tape on it in two shades of pink and a taped pattern on it too!

GRRR!

We now make sure everything is a single dark colour.

You and me both!!!!! Hannah goes to her first PC rally next weekend.

Thank God she's grown out of the pink saddle cloth phase and bought a plain brown one recently.
