ive just been looking on the internet about diffrent gcse's you can take and horse riding came up could anyone tell me more about it?do all school do it? any help appreciated x
Yeah, you can do this igf you take PE. However you must have a registered riding instructor, who is will to take part in it. It is alos nessacary that you compete..i.e more than local competitions...
Hope this helped

lovee sport on loads off teams and was goin to take it anyway but it's a bonus there an option to do riding! that would be really helpfull if you could email thanks x
I've got no idea about doing it but my friend is a teacher and asked me to give her things to look out for etc as she doesn't know one end from the other when it comes to horses. I do think it's worth considering how much your teacher will understand as it can effect your marks I would have thought.
I did it as part of my GCSE PE i did dressage on my friends horse as she trained me i had never done dressage before i had to be filmed for the test and i got 10/10 for that sport my PE teacher told me you had to be county level to get a decent grade but i would never say i am at that level at all! you have to do dressage or show jumping at a certain height.
You don't have to compete or do anything like that, you've just got to demonstrate you can do the basics: walk, trot, canter (with and without stirrups), ride accurate shapes etc. pop a small jump and stuff like that. i had the worst day ever (first time I'd ridden the horse I did it on and he was being a little monster, also had only started riding properly again like 2mnths ago) and got 7/10. Your PE teacher will have the sylabus, just go through it with your instructor and then you'll need to get someone to video it and give it to your teacher so she can send it off. Hope that makes sense!!! Vx

Being County level tends to apply to the more "normal sports" ie sports such as football, netball etc that are done at school.
I got a 10/10 for my gcse and full marks at AS level

Mine was really funny about it i think she was trying to put me off cause she said if your not county level in dressage or jumping theres no point taking it, which put me off at first! there was no mention of having to be county level at the other sports lol is funny how different people get told different things lol
We were never told we had to be county level, its just the considered level or equivalant to be at to be scoring 10's.
But yes them trying to put you off sounds right! However I was lucky and rode my teachers' daughter's pony for AS
My daughter is taking PE sports as one of her options, and has been told, yes, horse riding counts. So far,we have had no further info! But, with having to participate in 3 other sports through the school -in her case netball, hockey and athletics- does make riding extremely hard now the nights are darker, by the time she has finshed training and matches. It's hockey now, netball after Christmas and athletics in summer term.
Have not been given any idea on the standard of riding required, but have been told she needs to be part of a club- easy! Pony Club now has an extra member!
