I am thinking of adding one of these-it won't be very large as it will be in addition to an arena (eventually). For those of you that have them , how did you do it and did it work well?

Am planning on removing topsoil but then was wondering if to then hardcore, and/or membrane before the pea gravel?
How deep for the gravel? Is it a pain to poo pick? Did you use kickboards/sleepers?

thanks muchly.

One of the threads in the Vet/ Feet bit has some pics of a couple of homemade pea gravel areas and some details about how it was done. I can't remember which thread now but it's recent (last couple of days) and quite long.

I have a pea shingle track system for 10 horses although the main users are 3 IR horses - its the best surface expense I ever put down I would go for shingle over arena - any day - poo picking is easy you use a shavings fork - its clean and tidy and brilliant for hooves, colic or low cal horses - or chokes or mud fever or lammis - now are you sold :-)

thanks CC will have a look.

Macarthur-I am sold on it, just not sure how to make it achievable (and affordable!) and would like an arena as well although its not as much a priority as grass free turnout is. How did you build yours?
