Hello! I'm going to book me and my bf for a ride as his christmas present, does anyone have any recommendations for riding centres which do hacks in the Peak District? He's been riding about a while but on and off, so needs somewhere with safe horse.

Cheers medears!!

Depends on what part of the peak istrict you are talking about. There is a western riding place at Dunsford Bridge that does hacking which may be a bit different to the normal riding school hacks. I know someone who did a 2 hour ride with them but they said next time they will go on one of the longer ones for the pub part :D

Hmm well looking more towards the Sheffield side of things as thats where we live but willing to drive to a decent place.

Crabbymare is that the western riding place?

Anyone ever been to Ladybooth Equestrian Centre in Edale?

More years ago than I care to remember I learnt to ride at the below. I have no idea what its current reputation is but it does appear to be still running, and it does say it does one and two hour hacks after assessments. I remember going on the 2 hour hacks and that included going up on the moors.

I second Northfield Farm. I had a wonderful time there. Plan on going back and taking my grandaughter.

Also, Flash is set in stunning countryside. It's really gorgeous around there, and it's supposedly the highest village in England so you can imagine you get some lovely views!

Yes it is lovely, we did the ride to three shire heads, which is where Derbyshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire meet. It is very scenic, there is a waterfall and an old packhorse bridge. Here's a link to a picture;

Definitely you will get some of the best hacking ever at Flash but beware it can be a bit rough and ready there, and frigging cold in winter :eek: but don't let that put you off :)

I think they close over the worse months of winter and the horses go off elsewhere.

It was slightly basic when I went but actually fairly well run. I can imaging people being a little surprised that the horses are tied up in a barn rather than stabled before you arrive (I think they live out) and also the horses aren't very tidy. But they were all a decent weight, we had a qualified ride ride leader and an assistant accompany us, we were all given hi-viz etc and the horses were well behaved and suitable. The hacking was good, the ride leader paid attention and behaved responsibly we had options for cantering and were split into two sub groups to avoid things getting too exciting.

I thought it was one of the better places I have been to for a hack.

Try Haddon house. My daughter and I had the most fantastic hack with them some 2 years ago. The horses were all fit,and responsive. The ride was fast,and included going through water which she loved as we can't do that where we are.

I can also recommend Northfield Farm at Flash, i was there on work experience a number of years back and had no issues with the way they treated their horses or customers! Lovely Views and Safe horses which you need while your gawping at the scenery! lol

It is a little rough round the edges so to speak, No immaculate white walls and gleaming ponies, but they are well fed, happy things up there, tack for each horse which has been fitted and they really do care. You can choose which type of ride to go on depending on experience and time you wanted in the saddle, from half an hour up to a full day if your up for it xD
