So Jack has been diagnosed with a pedal bone fracture which extends into his coffin joint, he will be on total box rest for 6 weeks and then depending on how it has healed introducing so in hand grazing. Anyway my question what is the best bedding to support him during this time? Currently he has Bliss which when deep littered is quite supportive. Is there something better? Anything else I need to consider for him to help him heal as quickly and fully as possible?

Sorry that i can't help with advice RE bedding, but i just wanted to say that I hope that Jack heals up and comes sound.

Lots of healing *vibes*.

Do you have matting underneath? The vets at my old yard always suggested cow matting (EVA) underneath as this added to the support, and also meant less of an issue if the bedding moved etc as it provided far more support than rubber or concrete.
I use easibed for Nugz when he has lami flare ups, and really rate it as it moves a bit like the pea shingle everyone likes for bare footers. But in reality I don't think Bliss is much different?

Unless you try mixing in really fluffy shavings?

Thank you Faracat vet is giving him an 80% chance so fingercrossed :D Nugget I don't have matting only by the door where there isn't bedding. Easibed is wood chip so heavier, bliss is chopped rape straw so probably a cross between wood chip and shavings. I am liking the idea of it not moving under foot, will venture to the feed store this weekend and see what they have.

Hey, Having recently been through this with my horse when she fractured the right wing of her pedal bone I can highly recommend Hemcore/Aubiose.
I found it very supportive for my horse. She has made a full recovery so fingers crossed for Jack! :)

I had my horse on Aubiose before and it was a lovely bed, nice and soft and springy however my horse tried to eat it so I had to spray it with disinfectant (still tried to eat it after just that) and mix with sawdust.
