Hi, i know all horses are different, but my horse has pedal bone rotation of 8 degrees, what do people think the prognosis is for competing, dressage, and jumping in the future ?

Yup, my mare had 11 degrees spring 2010, spring 2011 she was doing sponsored rides, galloping, jumping xc, dressage, you name it and all at the grand old age of 21. I had her feet re-x-rayed this year and they showed no rotation so with good farriery the rotation CAN be reversed. Good luck.

Hey, my little arab had 10 degrees in one hoof and 7 in the other. One of the bones had sunk 5mm also. This was in May 2009. By May 2010 we were back in work and now do more than we've ever done to keep the weight off! This includes jumping and long distance riding and she is a dab hand at dressage also!

My farrier is our hero as it was down to him. It is soul destroying-the road to recovery but you CAN do it and lead a perfectly "normal" life afterwards.

Best of luck to you and your horse :)

thank you owl and bo, you are right, I am at the sole destroyed stage at the moment, went back to newmarket yesterday and great news is pedal bone appears to have stabilised and not rotated anymore, but the road to recovery is long, and been told its likely to be spring before he'll be in a position to be worked again, which seems so far away off :( back again in another 6 weeks to make sure no further movement. 10 weeks down and about 25 to go :) .

My mare has bad rotation in her pedals, to the point we thought she wouldn't be able to do any work, with a bit of toe and heal back trimming and a pair of shoes, she happier than ever jumpin again. :)

Thanks Jade&Syrah and Owl and Bo. Has cheered me up knowing i'm not alone and others have come out the other side.

We are allowed in a pen from yesterday (however think there might be some ACP required) will let you know how we get on

:)
