Pee Wee bit - anyone tried one?

Have just tried a Pee Wee bit on the Spanish chap with the very fat pink fleshy lips who bogs off at the drop of a hat. so far so good. I have to say he seemed totally puzzled to start with. I let him stand for a good half hour to play with it before riding in the arena. He seemed genuinely perplexed by it, and we had some nice easy walk, trot and halt transitions all done very quietly. Then the usually terrifying transition to canter which usualy goes as follows = fling both front legs up and slam down on floor, quick rear and then launch forward to warp speed. only this time it was a nice, if slightly sharp transtion to canter and back to trot within half a cirlce! No yanking reins out of hands, no chucking head to smack in face, no 15 or more cirlces to slow down and stop! nice and light in the hand too.

just hope it will last! nice to have him settled in the head though, and no obvious sore mouth afterwards. (the other Spaniard does not have the same problem at all). This is the one on loan who is a renowned bogger offerer!

I like the PeeWee. I've used it very successfully on a Clydie and an ID, both with big fat tongues and fleshy lips. I've also lent it to a friend who needed to teach an eventer to turn. It worked very well and she could then put him back into a more conventional bit.
I would like to use it on my Westphalian who also has a fat tongue and fleshy lips but unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding cheek-pieces which are long enough to accommodate the small rings. She is in a NS Universal atm, until I can have some specially made, she has a very big head.

I love it Used mine on two Sec As (one who disliked bits & a youngster with no steering at all) at two TBxs who have all gone nicely in it. Now use it when I jump Dante as pelham means 'some' breaks, but in the peewee we have breaks, control right into & after the jump, and no more setting his neck Much better!

I've only tried one of mine in it - Pharaoh, and he goes fantastically in it at home - far and away the best bit I've ever used on him, so I use it almost all the time for schooling and hacking.

However, at endurance events (he's an advanced endurance horse) he is still extremely exitable and sets himself against the bit in his determination to get ahead of other horses. Even wearing the Pee Wee, with its lower-in-the-mouth position, he managed to do this - goodness knows how! I certainly have brakes with the Pee Wee, but in Pharaoh's case, it didn't prevent him leaning on it (but I stress, only when he's at an event and got his plonker head on!).

i have been musing on the idea to try one of these on my TB. He is currently in a pelham, where I use 2 reins, but someone else suggested trying these. do they hire them out at bit banks as I would like to try before I buy!
