I was going to post asking if anyone had worked out the tiny little diagram that comes with one!
Bought mine just before xmas but can't say it's the miracle bit that the tack shop claimed. At least not so far... Have hacked and schooled but not jumped yet. Horse still arguing, tried it lower, he seems to be ok with that but still fussy with his mouth.
It comes with a tiny piece of paper that says it can be used three different ways. There are a couple of small diagrams to demonstrate but I would have preferred a photograph or something a bit clearer tbh!
The mild version is straight forward, but I can't for the life of me work out the other stronger positions.
I ordered one on trial and sent it back. Wasnt the miracle bit it claimed and looked like an instrument of torture. My horse felt very strong in it and I know what you mean about the diagrams but I think I sussed it as I wanted to use it in the correction position. Shop4bits will send it you on trial for a month for £5. I'd try it first as to me its nothing more than a very thin mullen mouth at 3 times the price.
My sister has got one for her ShirexClydesdale and although they haven't been out much as sister is still recovering from broken ankle, they both seem to like it. The mare has a big tongue and a very short fleshy mouth. She also has a bit of a problem with moving her head in the right direction, and opens her mouth when she has the french link in. She is much more steerable, much less fussy. The mare is unfit at the moment, so difficult to assess totally, but as I say they both seem happy with it. My sister recomends looking on the website for the instructions. We did have to get a longer curb strap (we bought a cat collar!). The bit would not measure up for a 7", but fits the 6 1/2" big mouth ok.
we got one on trial a couple of weeks ago and just havent had the chance to try it yet. The vid is quite clear on how to use it unlike the pics that come with it! Ive got it for a very fleshy mouthed haffie with a thick tongue and I think she will like it better that her french link, Ive also got some youngsters to start so am interested to see how they go in it too. I can see my buying it anyway and not getting around to using it for ages!
I have one one trial from Shop4Bits. Used it first time last weekend: no miracles as promised but am seeing a gradual improvement with my 17.3h STRONG hunter! (Who I have been having bitting nightmares with for 2 years).
I got it for him he has a big tongue and very soft mouth and pulls like a train out hunting (who definitely does not work on a contact: he wouldn't know what contact was if it came and smacked him in the face!) and although I ride very light with no flash etc he gets a sore mouth.
I was disappointed as he was evading it and seemed to be resisting the curb. However I persevered and used it again this weekend, he went so much better. He seemed to relax alot more with it. He was easier to turn, pull up and did not snatch the reins out my hands like he normally does. He mouthed up in it beautifully and was much more controllable (I've got it on the medium setting).
I cant ride till next weekend so will give you a further report next Monday! Going to do a x country ride in a fortnight and that will be ultimate test....then it has to go back.
I would recommend you get one from Shop4Bits to try. Shame its not the miracle bit it promised to be but maybe if I hang on in there!
I had one on trial but sent it back. I didnt like the way it seemed to twist when you took up a contact and also my mare didnt seem to take any notice of it. It felt a bit like riding in a headcollar. Not very impressed to be honest. The only benefit I found was that she didnt bother to get her tongue over it (probably because she didnt really notice it was there!)
