as title, my mare doesnt do any work due to an injury so is basically a field ornament. have been bringin her in recently and last week thought i would give her a little treat and gave her a tiny feed. when i was making it she piddled everywhere, then she did the same thing the next day. I have been unable to get to yard for the last 6 days due to illness and the girl looking after her just texted to say she gave her a tiny feed and she peed everywhere again! i first thought she must be in season but that would be unlikely as that would mean she has been in for 11 days lol x
call me stupid but never noticed this before with mine or any other horses.
is it genuinely just an excitement about getting food?
your thoughts please and thankyou x

My boy had a sprinkle [not a proper pee] one time, I phoned vet and he said, slight infection, four days on Danilon and he was OK,
Probably not in your case, but has to be considered, I find my gelding likes to pee as soon as he is put out in field, and also when he comes in from field, territorial, I assume, he never poops out hacking unless scared, and never pees either.

I have a mare that does that as well mainly for evening feeds in winter, I am sure its not a sign of anything wrong.

I also have a shetland pony mare that everytime you feed her, she rolls even on concrete in the yard, sometimes she does not wait till she has finished eating but will stop and do it half way through ! nearly gave me heart attack the first time I saw it, I was convinced she had colic. Seems to be more of a habitual routine

My mare pee's when I make her morning & night feed :) In the winter when she'd see me approaching the field she would pee. She never pee's when I'm riding her or in the trailer but she poo's when she's scared.

feel better now :) i am blinking worrier at best of time (only with my own), i never noticed it last year with her never mind lol
gingerarab: i would have died on the spot if one of mine did that rolling thing lmao x

i remember a few years ago my daughter was in the indoor arena and i was on the yard dealing with whatever when i heard screaming, it was my girl shouting on me urgnetly, i ran into school and screamed myself, her pony was on the deck, he had rolled (he wasnt being ridden) and he was cast! when i realised what he had done i was fine. so you can imagine what i would be like if i had your sheland hee hee x

Alfie'smom its the look on other peoples face if they see her do it, even if she is on the yard, she will have a good roll on the concrete then get up and carry on quite unconcerned at the fuss she has created :)

One of my geldings always pees when his feed is coming, even if all he can do is squeeze out a few drops. He's sweet but not the brightest soul ......

My gelding always pees while you mix his dinner. Its a bit of a standing joke now. He does it every single time - even if he has peed earlier.

I think he's a bit like me though - my mum always made me go to the loo before I got in the car or went to bed - over 40 years later I still have to go last thing before I either leave the house or go to bed - conditioned or what?

Most of mine pee when they see the food buckets coming, mares, geldings and stallions. Flint started it and some of the others just seem to have picked up the habbit over the years. There is no reason for it that I can see as they all live out 24/7 so it's not like they are coming in onto a fresh bed. I also have a mare that likes rolling with her head in a bucket - and yes, it is a shetland lol!
