Someone mentioned the other day about their horse had a peeling frog. One of the girls at our yard had the same thing with her horse last week. It smelt disgusting - It has now all come off, but still smells. Could it be thrush? any ideas how to treat. Horse is not lame at all!

Frog can peel off naturally, it does this all the time and doesn't necessarily mean anything.

I would scrub hoof clean and then clean up with some peroxide solution. The most important thing with clearing up thrush is to keep the hoof clean and dry

Yep, i've had problems as well, it wasn't just peeling though but coming off in big chunks. I used Effol Frog Protector and it cleared up literally overnight!!

Cairo has lost about half his frog size in the last couple of weeks.

I put it down to having shoes on again (his frogs do reduce when shoed) and the sudden wet weather softening them up.

I just pulled or cut away the loose stuff and gave them a squirt of stockholm tar to keep them fresh.
