Anyone got experience of either or both?

I have an appy who has a great fat tongue and very pink sensitive inside lips. I have been riding him in a Myler 30 04 which is the best bit for him so far, but still a lot of flinging head about etc.

Was wondering about the peewee (which seems to be a wonder bit) or the Myler combination which fierce as it looks, distributes the pressure. The 43 mouthpiece has a lot of tongue relief which he probably needs.

Thoughts?

I had an idiot moment, a friend raved about the transformation it had made on her horse. I bought one, it arrived, took one look at it and thought "that's going nowhere near his mouth". Then I remembered, I had just spent £50, so put it in his mouth. No result.

Any bit which costs that much has to be a con imho! (Altho, wanna buy one? I keep meaning to ebay the thing ;))

Nope the pee wee wasn't the wonder bit for me either. I'd liken my experience of it to being a bit like riding in a headcollar, ie not a lot of brakes!

The mare I tried the pee wee on had a huge fat tongue and used to flip her tongue over the bit (a lot!).

I also bought a myler combination (short shank, low port type) as I was advised that would be a good choice. She went ok in that, didn't do the tongue trick.

But the one that worked best for her (ironically after buying some v expensive bits) was an very thin mouthpiece french link. I can't recall the make unfortunately

I've got the myler 43 in a short shank combination on a pony that has always fussed about his bit and worried about life in general. Its been a revelation on him, he loves it. The combination bits, with the proviso that they are fitted correctly as most of the ones I see are fastened far too loose, are very good bits. If fitted too loose it negates the whole point of the bit, being that pressure is distributed and goes to the poll, nose and jaw first, mouth second, but I'm sure you all ready know that from what you've said!

If you get the chance when Dale Myler is next over here try and get to one of the bitting clinics, I went last year and it was absolutely fascinating to watch him work and chat about their bitting concepts.

I have a Pee Wee - used it on 4 different horses/ponies and am rather happy with it :) Dante who can be silly about the contact and braking too goes very nicely in it - shame it isn't dressage legal! And we can jump in it in the arena (not sure I'd try XC but then, he doesn't stop in the pelham brilliantly for that...!) However have ridden my stroppy Welsh A in it, and used it for XC etc. on the mare.

Havent looked at the myler but if you just want to distribute pressure/shift pressure, a kineton noseband might help?

We rented a pee wee bit after reading up on it as it sounded so perfect for my little Haffie. We used it once, luckily I had hacked out with my mum and stepdad so she had other horses to follow, or else I don't think we'd have made it home in one piece! I basically gave up and dropped the reins, because i literally had no control what so ever! My mare isn't even naughty to ride really, which is a god send or there would have definitely being an accident with such little control.

I'd say don't waste your money!

Thank you - bitting is an absolute minefield. Think hiring is probably the way forward as nothing is very cheap these days!!

If you want to try them then have a look at the bit bank, you pay a nominal fee for the bit to be sent to you, try it out and then either return it before the trial period ends (I think 1 month) or they will take the rest of the payment from your card. Affordable way to try out a bit without an investment that may be worthless to you!
