Pelham and flash?

Hi, can you have a flash strap with a pelham bit to show in? I take it you can't as curb chain would get in the way of flash strap but I'm not sure?

My pony managed to somehow get her tounge over the bit whilst out showing theo ther day, don't know how she managed it but a flash strap should stop that but she goes best in a pelham.
 
I was wondering this. I haven't used them both together, believing it to be incorrect, but will watch any more replies with interest.

Do they do oposite things?? Surely the function of a pelham is not to open the horse's mouth, and the primary function of a flash is to keep it shut?
 
Well I hunt and xc in a pelham with flash and find they work fine so not "a silly pairing" for me. He locks/crosses his jaw without the flash and I tried a gag but he just sticks his head between his knees.

I don't use the flash when I go showing though - I didn't think you could?
 
Im sure i read an article recently by Kate Jerram - or someone equally high in the showing world - who shows hunters and has a double/pelham and flash. Think the main point was that you could do it as long as it was in the right hands and if it is really necessary. Have you tried a ported pelham?

Also I think you can wear a flash with a pelham in working hunter classes

I read an article on it in a magazine and it was advised against really, but who cares - I'll stick to my snaffle mouth any day

Yes I know hence why I SJ in a grackle but I was told a grackle impedes more with the action of a pelham & curb hence why I use the flash when I need the pelham bit. (he doesn't need it SJ).

I know you can't ridden hunter classes but not sure working hunter.
