I am new to this forum and have a question.

What is the correct way to use two reins with a pelham?
I have read that you should have the snaffle part in its normal position (tween small and ring finger) and the curb between middle and ring finger.

Is this correct?

Yes thats correct. It means that the snaffle comes in the play before the curb and most of the pressure is on the snaffle part.

The snaffle rein does go where it would normally but you will see that some people (including me) hold the curb rein round the outside of the little finger then back through the palm.

Either way is acceptable but I find I have more subtle control of the curb holding it that way rather than through the third finger.

Interesting. I tried it that way but found I was using the curb before the snaffle.

PS. I've managed to get Hattie to stop bouncing in the pelham, I took her up her favourite hill, she just bronc-ed instead, out of excitement not the bit.

My instructor tells me to put the curb rein under my little finger and I find it impossible as I was taught in the past to have snaffle rein as usual and the curb between the fingers above it. I find that way the easiest but then the mare I used to use the pelham with was for show purposes only and she didnt like the curb action so I rode mainly on the snaffle rein.
