Silly question, but i have only ever used snaffles untill now. Can i use a flash with a pelham, also can i use the curb and the flash. Very sorry to be so thick.

Yes you can use a flash and a curb with a pelham all at the same time!!!

Interesting. I was told recently that you should not use a curb and a flash at the same time as they give confusing messages. Guess who is confused now!

Well l use pelham/flash/curb on one of my event horses for xc goes like a dream in it!! So l guess it works for me

I have always been told not to, but never actually bene given the reason why - luckily never needed to anyway!

Luckily I managed to train mine enough not to need to try, as I was about to try.

my instructor, indies owners and another friend have all said its a pelham

Im a bit surprised your instructor doesnt know the difference between a Pelham and a kimblewick!!
Anyway, the main reason you normally dont use a flash with a curb chain is illustrated in the pictures above. The curb chain is supposed to sit in the chingroove and apply pressure on the lower jaw when the side bars of the bit are pulled back (to about 45 degrees). ...This way you get the correct action on the bit. You cant do that properly if the flash is sitting in the chin groove, which in the pictures, it is....
However, its up to you in the end, but I only use a flash on a horse who has a tendancy to open its mouth to evade the bit. Mine doesnt and goes perfectly well without the flash.

I was just looking at the pics you posted here and I Hope you dont mind me saying, but your kerb chain is positioned too high and you really should have a rubber or leather kerbchain guard on the chain otherwise its really uncomfortable/painful for the horse, which may cause them to throw their head up when you least want it/expect them to....sorry and dont mean to offend !!
