Am I searching for something that doesn't exist?

I need to replace my cob's pelham but can't find one with big enough slots to fit 1" wide cheekpieces. Surely it can't be that unusual to use a pelham with a hunter bridle?

Any show cob riders out there got any ideas?

I know what you mean. I had to squash the sides of my full size hunter cheekpieces in to fit into my pelham. I don't know how I will get my extra full bridle cheekpieces into one if I need to.

I know! Sadly my cobs don't have enough room in their mouths for 2 bits or I would use a double.
What is strange is that I have a 6" pelham, so obviously for a big horse but the cheeks slots are the same size as a smaller bit.

Thanks for that, think I'll ring and ask them to measure for me! On some of the ones I've seen on my hunt even the eyes for the lip strap are tiny!!

The arch mouth pelham is also suitable - if they still make them

I've got about 20 pelhams on a brick arch in my house ( including a horrible Swales 3 in 1 ) . They're all ancient , like me , but I collect old bits - prob got about 50 including a a jointed , twisted mouth pelham ( ugh ) & several other types of bit - pointless post , sorry

I collect old bits too and they're hanging up the staircase! I managed to borrow a Korsteel Rugby pelham today with big cheek piece slots, now just need to find somewhere that sells them!

Great , a fellow collector !

I started when I worked for a saddler , but lost them in a house move . All of mine are from eBay , including a huge twisted snaffle ( very rusty & VERY old - made me wonder how big the horse was

)

I've got a very vicious looking bridle from Argentina with a huge port with a roller in the middle ( vintage ) . I had a spare breaking bit which my dog found & loves to play with - daft hound
