Pen picking up her second ever pheasant. She likes it! She did one two weeks ago and one today, she is 11 months old.
Thank you Paul MacNeil for the photo, I have permission to share it.

MOC - off topic, I was reading an article in Shooting Times (I think) about dogs tracking injured deer that have been hit by cars as well as shot. They use volunteers... if ever you are bored!?

I looked into it-we would love it except that you need to be able to shoot the deer-so the training I looked at was really after trained stalkers or those that shoot already. just not interested in shooting (I'd would be ok putting something out of its misery but a big commitment for someone not into shooting).

I accept that my cautionary warnings aren't always soooo well received, but most would suggest that 11 months really is — awfully young. You 'may' get away with it, but in a years time, you may well be posting how Pen has got herself out of control, and so you now only take Tawny — OR how Tawny, witnessing Pen's transgressions, has decided to join in with the fun, and both are out of control.

I may well be wrong, obviously.

Alec.

Oh I didn't think of that. I don't shoot either, and see where you are coming from. The three times I have had to kill a deer or kangaroo I was stuck and bashed them but it was far from ideal!

This was a reply to MOC! Alec she is doing very little, no more than Tawny at the same age.

the only weapon I am trained to use is a bow and not sure it would do the job lol. love the idea of the tracking though.did you see the video on FB of a golden retrieving a deer from a lake?

She is a little cracker, so different to Tawny. The picture is a genuine retrieve, not a set up (in case anyone wondered) our friend the photographer happened to be standing in the back field where I was. :-)
