I have been stressing about Penfold for a while,he made a gurgling sound at Aston and he had a nosebleed and got vet to check him out. It appears he is displacing his soft palate which is why he gurgled but they couldn't identify the cause of the bleed . He is now in a grakle and tongue guard for xc and we have tried to get him fitter. He went to PC camp last week as Claire was teaching and he lost even more weight, but she said he felt well so we went to Draycott today.

She only looked at which dressage test it was , today and shock , horror it had rein back in it........He has never been asked to rein back. Oh dear.

As soon as she mounted the heavens opened but that helped because he wanted to keep his head down . A quick lesson in rein back and in he went. He got an 8 for the centre line and was going well , he even did quite a good rein back but on the 5 metre loops in canter he changed leg and then back again [he is very good at flying changes]. Still she was pleased with him. We knew they had changed the times but got a bit muddled and didn't want to get too wet , so left it a bit late to do the show jumping and as she was last to go in the novice she only had time for a cross pole and in. He did a lovely round in very slippery conditions, just having one pole , it was a pole above the planks.

Then it was quick change of boots and clothes and over to xc .It was tough enough but she was hopeful [I just wanted him to finish without swallowing his tongue and having to pull up.I couldn't see much but did hear then say she took a strange line though 6 and 7[ This was because one of his girth straps gave way and she did not have an over girth on and her saddle slipped] She carried on but had to keep righting the saddle. I was at the water and he jumped it great in but stood off the large step out leaving her hailing a taxi. He finished and recovered well.
We didn't expect to do well but went over to look at the score board...Can you believe it they were 4th... They won £90....
He did have a small bleed again when we got home but seems well and recovered.
Never thought he would ever get placed at novice. Have permission to show the lovely pics and will post the link when they come online as they are a lovely sequence of about 8 pics in the water

It was very slippery as it was staying on top of the ground but should soak in tonight. Lovely people organising it, lovely photographer , when you go to see your pics, tell him I mentioned how nice he was on here , he may remember the pics of the coloured and that I asked him for permission.
Thought the water was quite tough but didn't cause many problem , time very tight, no one anywhere near getting it.

I've always like the photographers at Draycott, take lovely photos and have always been good to deal with, but I wasn't at the PC Champs so can't comment there

Didn't notice at first - have just gone back and looked at pic. Fantastically sharp in such bad conditions for photography. I guess thats why the pro's pay thousands for their lenses.

Well Done!

I'd noticed that a lot of people don't bother with overgirths anymore and have been wondering why

. Still won't be giving mine up in a hurry!
