I've seen a few posts on fb about horses been fed in fields without the owners permission.

I've put some signs up but obviously people think it doesn't mean them!

Haven't had any problem so far but then found these delights in the field this morning, onions with the elestic band on, limes, really ?

I've got an outer fence, inner fence and have just added another 3rd line of electric fencing, field now looks like a crystal maze game. See if that helps

For gods sake!!
It’s so so annoying. I know the two horses I’m looking after from my work are getting fed. So far I’ve only found carrots *touch wood* which isn’t the end of the world but it’s a really worry

Thats insane! Whaat on earth are people thinking?
maybe add to your signs ‘smile - you’re on camera’...

We have been told that the last few days between 3 and 4pm that a family with 3 kids have been cycling up to my mares field and letting the kids run about in there with them! So guess who is going to be there this afternoon with a sign to put on the gate!

People really do have no respect! I bet they don't let the kids run around in the field full of racehorses they go past to get to my shetlands!

'One of these Shetland eats children... I'm not telling you that which'? I'm not sure where all these people suddenly breaking into fields have come from what were they doing pre lockdown?

It's not just the feeding, they could easily get themselves hurt and that's before the chance if passing on the virus. People just dont think any more!

I find it really sad that these people obviously have this beautiful British countryside literally on their doorstep, but they've clearly never actually ventured off a pavement before- not until it was literally the only activity they were allowed to do! Shocking that so many people are so clueless not only about etiquette and livestock management, but also very basic personal safety.

Just back from walking my dogs having had 2 very polite conversations (thankfully) with different families that had stopped to feed the local riding school ponies - asking their tots if they wanted to feed the horses. One had tubs of food, looked like muesli ?‍♀️ and the other was telling the kids to pick things for them. Just told them you shouldn’t feed animals without owners permission, they said ok but hadn’t moved away before I got out of site. I’m not usually confrontational so felt a bit paranoid that I said something but all I could see were tiny little hands very near large horse teeth ? my field has a footpath along one side but it’s well electrified and the horses won’t approach it but if people throw stuff in they’ll woof it down ? have ordered signs ??
Will let the riding school know too ??

Millions of people have no countryside on their doorstep, your comment is incredibly patronising

But this sort of problem only seems to have started happening when people were told they were only allowed out for exercise literally from their own doorstep. That's all I meant.

FFS this is insane. People trespassing, littering and feeding your animals anything they want. I left the UK last year because of all the knobheads that had invaded my area. I’m getting really upset reading these posts and learning what you have to put up with. I’m really sorry.

It's not so much venturing off a pavement as out of a car. There are unprecedented numbers of people walking and cycling in towns and in rural areas because one of the upsides of lockdown is that the roads at long last became safe for them to do so.

That’s a good thing too surely ?

We’ll survive !

And literally from their own doorstep they found that their local park was closed, the local crematorium grounds were closed, the local beach was closed, the local National Trust huge acreage was closed, the local University campus of many many acres was closed ...

Absolutely which I why I said one of the upsides of lockdown. I hope it continues with fewer cars on the road and enables children to cycle to school and workers to their workplace on safer roads with cleaner air. Unfortunately given that is is now our civic duty not to use public transport I fear that it will be driving/being driven instead of cycling and walking. I'm looking forward to seeing how the councils spend their extra money to improve life for pedestrians and cyclists.

Get a wildlife camera so you can identify the offenders and when they come. Put up a sign saying "CCTV in operation. Anyone feeding these horses will be held fully liable for any resulting vets fees or loss of life". If that doesn't work, use the info from the camera to follow them home and feed inapropriate crap to their dog / child and see how they like it...

Ah I see what you mean. We don't really have those sorts of facilities here within walking distance anyway. Which is kind of what I meant by "sad"- people round here previously seem to have predominantly chosen to drive somewhere for an excursion, rather than just go for a local walk. But the good news is that people are actually loving rediscovering our own local footpaths! We just need to somehow spread the "country code" message.

I've just put this at the Shetlands field. I would have put it on the gate but I know what those ponies are like and they would have had it pulled down in an instant! I know they can't reach it where it is. What is annoying is they were all by the gate. They are never by the gate unless you are there. So I am guessing someone was along just before I was!
