Sad but i actually think best to pts- an old horse can be full of life and after being kept at same place for long time a change can be massive to them and affect them so much more.
We had same decision with friends horse. Both late 20s one had cushing and worsened so needed pts i wanted to move other as i rode him a bit but in end decided to let him go to as didn't want to upset him by moving.
Although every case is different and if they do find him a home then i hope it goes well.
