Not a happy post I'm afraid but hay ho.
Driving to the yard yesterday afternoon through the town something catches my eye, on the other side of the road was a lil kitten in a pool of blood, leaping and flipping off the ground, everyone just drove past it! Even ppl walking just carried on watching it as they went! Cars drove around it!

Me being me stopped, jumped out of the car, legged it across the road, picked up the lil baby and drove like a bat out of hell to the vets half a mile down the road!

But the kitten died in the footwell of the car. I pushed through the ppl waiting in the vets showed the reseptionist the poor thing n she told the vet to look at it, but it was to late :(

I was shaking and covered in blood but couldn't save it :(

It really annoyed me all the ppl just driving past it! No way could u miss that kitten leaping off the road!

My faith in people has been shattered.

R.I.P lil kitten x

Poor thing and poor u bet it was horrible situation. That's sick how people could just leave it I am not a cat fan but as a animal lover I would have done the same as u . YOu did your best and that's all you can do. Some People are horrible that's why I have animals x x x

My husband asked me the other day why I had a towel in my boot. "In case of injured animals" said I.
Good on you for stopping OP. I too can't drive past :(

Poor little kitten. Sadly, I can well believe that others were ignoring it, I've seen & heard similar before. Some humans are vile.

Poor kitten :( Well done OP for trying to help.

It's not just animals that people drive round, OH had a video emailed him of a Chinse boy that gets ran over about three times (does not die thank god) but people just walk passed and look or just drive round him!!! HE WAS ONLY A YOUNG BOY ASWELL!!!!!!!

I have stopped to pick dead cats off the road to check for contact details and to stop the poor owners finding there loved pet in a mess on the road. I'd have done the same as you op.

I've also stopped and hammered on the door of a house to let them know there two dogs were running loose on a main road. Lots of people simply drove on. Ungrateful owner she was too.

That happened to my sister's cat in her close. You could tell he'd flipped about because of where the blood splashes were. Sadly he died before she could do anything (thank goodness as an eye was out as well as other head injuries) but the very kind post lady wrapped him up for her and he got buried at home.

The thing is the driver must have known they'd hit him but just drove off and being that it's a small close it probably was a neighbour of hers :(

Well done for trying your best for the poor little soul, that was very brave of you. I've even moved dead cats off the road so they don't get mangled so I know how you feel.

I have done that too as I couldn't bear the thought of someone seeing their pet in this way.

RIP little kitty, at least someone tried to take care of you in your last moments. Well done OP, big hugs to you and I'm sure kitty is looking down on you with thanks. xx

This really does anger me! A year ago on saturday my cat was killed right outside our house! She was only 2 years old and i rescued her when i lived in france as a kitten and bought her home, she was my baby.

We live in a cul-de-sac on a 30 road, and we could not keep my cat (Roxy) in, so she had a cat flap and was shut in at night. She was always wary of the road, but this one day before the bank holiday weekend she was playing with another cat. The neighbours kids saw it, i was at work 40 miles away and my dad was at home. This woman who drives along this road everyday was speeding like a looney, killed my cat and drove off! Luckily we found her, would have been much worse if she was 'lost' and suffered. She was killed instantly, but the fact this woman didn't care enough to stop, and it could have been a child just angers me so much! She was a beloved pet, and even to this day it hurts me to think about it. If this woman had done the speed limit, chances are Roxy would have been able to get out of the way and still be here today.

We did get another kitten, but it does still hurt! What is wrong with people

Well done you for stopping, i would have done the same. You tried and it breaks my heart to think people would do something like that. Lets just hope karma comes around and bites these people in the backsides!

Well done you,

I too have lost my faith in people. Unfortunatley there are few people like yourself.

I have become rather bitter towards people and would much rather live in the middle of nowhere and would live quite happily not have to speak to anyone else.

I deal with lots of general public at work and the more i do it the more i hate it.

I know these are strong words and unfair to the "nice people" but i view most people as scum! that dont deserve a place on this earth.

How awful. I could not drive past any animal. I stopped to check a hedgehog the other day. Was at side of road but not squashed. Wanted to make sure he wasn't still alive and just injured. Well done for stopping. People are so heartless these days :(

I live outside of the UK and people are like that all the time, cats and dogs just roam around and get run over, people don't even slow down, they beep and if the animal doesn't get outta the way then tough. It's so, so sad. I think Gandhi once said that "you can tell how civilized a country is by how it treats animals" - therefore there are not many civilized places on the planet IMO!:(

:( poor little thing - that's made me feel really sad! As you say, some people really don't care.

**Fluffy Bunny warning** A few days ago I was driving along a back street quite close to me and I could see a small critter in the road in the distance, I thought it was a rat at a glance, but as I got closer I realised it was a hedgehog. I know you're not supposed to stop for animals in the road, but I did and didn't care that I was holding up about 5 cars behind me to let the little thing cross the road at it's own pace! :D

Bit odd though, it was midday in a built up residential area - I thought hedgehogs were nocturnal?

I once stopped on a narrow road for a cat that walked out. Cat was limping badly & looked a state, so I whacked on my hazards & got out to check. Some stupid hag drove up behind & got out to see why I was stopped in the narrow road. When I explained, her words were 'I don't give a **** about a ******* cat'. Being more concerned about the cat, I used a phrase sounding like duck off, & went after the cat. Luckily, it had a collar on. Turned out it was just old & arthritic, & senile, & had escaped a few days ago. It was very friendly & I had no doubts I could have driven down the road with it on the back seat & let the woman past while I waited for owners. However in the absence of anyone else needing to get past I left her stuck till cats owners came. Even more amusing was the fact owner was a large, muscle bound skin head. Who woman saw me speaking & pointing at her to. So she ended up doing a complicated turn & still having to drive miles round after all that waiting. Served her right.

Thank you for caring :)

A few years ago my cat was hit by a car and managed to get to a garden a few days down before he died. The people that owned the house went knocking on all the doors in the area holding his collar to find out who owned him so they could give him back. I'm so glad they did, I would never have been able to cope not knowing what happened to him :(

2 stories from me...

One winter night traffic was held up in our village along the main through road - when I got to the hold up I realised there was a deer sitting down in the middle of a lane. You could clearly see that he was alive as his breath was visible in the cold air. Obviously many many cars had gone slowly round him! I stopped infront of him, saw that his leg/legs were clearly broken - took my coat off and put it over his head and struggled to lift him out of the road - he barked and struggled a little but sat fine on the verge. Parked my car and sat with him. One woman called out to me from her car 'don't you know they bite?'.

I waited for the rspca to send their guy and as soon as he looked at him he said that he would have to shoot him. I held the torch while the animal was shot and afterwards the guy gave me a tour of the dead deer, we looked at his teeth, his feet everything. It was so interesting. The guy was very impressed with the animal - said he was at least 12 which was a great age!

Second story... cars going around a very fluffy cat in the road. Stopped - got him to the side of the road and walked to the address on the collar. Man who opened door said - oh I'll come up but will have to get the kids ready as they can't be left on their own. I said I didn't recommend that the kiddies saw 'Sox' the cat as his eyes had popped out :(

WHY WHY WHY don't people stop to help!? I am always the one with the stray dog in the back of the car knocking on doors too!

I've taken two cats to vets that had been run over and left at the side of the road, sadly both had to be put down but at least their suffering was ended.
One I rescued was around midnight and I knew it needed putting down so took him to an emergency 24 hour one after calling them first, wasn't even my vets at the time but they were great. Even refused money when I offered to pay and they said it was no problem

How awful. Poor thing.
I once saw a cat in the road. it was dead, but stopped to see if it had a collar, which it did so I called the owner who lived in flats nearby and came to get it, balling her eyes out. :( I often wonder how many people had driven over a dying cat after it had first been hit. :(
Horrible isnt it.

Humanity is scum. I generally view people who don't like animals as the lowest form of human. Not liking animals is a sign of mental illness if you ask me!

Poor kitten - I would've stopped and rescued it. On holiday in egypt a few years ago, we saw a kitten that had been attacked by a dog - we ended up at a vets in the town having got there in a complete strangers car, late at night, quite drunk as it was our wedding anniversary, after saying we would pay for treatment no matter what - she stitched up the kitten on what looked like a kitchen table. Gave us antibiotics to inject for 5 days, then drops for after that, bandages etc. We stood wincing, waiting for the bill - came to £13! And apparently the English out there regularly donate money to the street cat/dog fund.

I cried and cried and cried that night, as I feared she wouldn't make it through the night - next morning I couldn't face going to see if she had made it, so sent my husband as I cried and cried back at the hotel. She was alive! -street cats out there are made of stern stuff

We spent every morning and evening of the remainder of our holiday, giving injections ( I used to be a trainee vet nurse) and redressing the wound - cat 'belonged' to one of the street restaurants. Showed the staff how to redress the wound and give tablets. We had to go home before she was due her stitches out, but I later found out that they took her to the vets to get them taken out. On the day we left, she was playing like a nutter around the street bazaars.

I couldn't stand by and do nothing - I was brought up with animals and my Father was always rescuing strays of all types of species! There are still some of us out there!

Its surprising how heartless alot of people are and its truely disgusting!

Would you leave an injured child bleeding to death in the middle of the road? No.. So why do the same to a defensless kitten.

Id have done exactly the same thing and its heartbreaking to read about stories like this, knowing that poor little kitten was suffering and in alot of pain. To all those who just walked/drove past and stepped round I hope it haunts you!

Well done for trying to help, its a shame there are not more like you.

I saw that happen to a baby bunny near me :-( people were just ignoring it! Just as I was going to help it, it was well and truely flattened. In a way I was glad that it was put out of its misery, but its still sad'

r.i.p kitty :-(
