There's someone on Dragon Driving selling 5 week old puppies. Well, there's only one left so I'm guessing the rest were a month old when they were sold. It really annoys me. Poor babies are far too young to leave their mum.

I can't figure out how to link the advert, but the text:

Puppy for sale, 5 weeks old, only one male dog left and is the one shown on its own.
Mother is a Border x Jack Russell & father is pedigree Border. Both from good working stock.

There was a really, really young pup when I was in P@H tonight, no way it should have been away from mum, a little girl was carrying it around while the parents chose bling for it :( thought the staff should have said something, it would not have been vacc'd and you can imagine what germs would be floating around a pet shop.

I had a 5 week old pup years ago. She was the runt of a litter of 4 who's very young (under a year and on her second litter) bitch lost interest in the pups when they were 31/2 to 4 weeks old. One pup died fairly quickly and the other 2 hogged the food so this little bitch was half the size of them and seemed to spend her time curled in the corner.

I ended up taking her because I had a massive row with the owner about a filly he had that was ill and was just left to die slowly in a stable rather than call the hunt to shoot her. After a 10 minute toe to toe, nose to nose shouting match it ended with me shouting about 'those pups in the other stable, are you going to just let them die too you t***pot?' and I was told that if I was that worried, you have her. So I did :D

I was lucky because my older bitch really mothered her and as she went straight to the vet we dealt with her horrific flea and worm burden quickly. She did have a double hernia that couldn't be fixed until she was bigger (she was less than 2lbs at 5wo) so that was repaired when she was spayed at 9/10 months old) She was murder to house train, recall took the best part of 2 years to establish and she had ishoos about everything - snow, dark, rain, noise, you name it she was scared of it! Not sure if all of it could be blamed on the early weaning though...

I would read that and think that the other pups have been sold but that does not mean they have gone to there new homes they could still be with mum

Many years ago a co-worker got a new puppy, it was 3 wks old :(. He never spoke to me again after I said in front of the whole office that the poor thing was far too young to leave its mum.

I still haven't learnt to keep my mouth shut

I picked up one of mine at 9 weeks and the other at 10.5. I ended up crying when they were howling, OH made out through the sobs 'he...misses...his...mum'. Aww. In an ideal world I suppose pups would stay with mum for a few months til she's sick of them. 5 weeks is way too young and you're risking a dead pup or behavioural issues imho. Of course if the alternative is worse it's better to take them like cbmcts
