People taking pictures.

Hacking on my own down the lanes the other week I had a car come past and go around a bend. When i go around the bend they had stopped and an asian lady got out, followed by her partner.

They asked if they could have a photo of the lady and me and Chico, which i said 'of course'.

They thought Chico was lovely and asked where they could go for lessons locally and asked about price and experience levels etc. Were really interested in the hobby.

They then thanked me and went back on their way.

Was really nice to get positive feedback, but I agree, I would have loved to ee the photos! :D:D

I was passing a friends place and saw a car stopped and a chap taking pictures. i stopped and asked if he had permission. He said he had but it didnt feel right so I went back and they drove off. Probably perfectly innocent but had to check. Took the reg number and gave it to our friend just in case. Nothing came of it luckily.

I had someone ask to have their picture taken with my ex share horse and me on Xmas day as he was dressed up with their wee boy. Didn't mind then.

Have had a random take a picture of me and Jazz galloping up a massive stubble field. Only seen them in fleet.

Pictures don't bother me- its the parents who let their children fly at you at full pelt on bikes / foot to 'speak to the horsey' and then titter when you don't stop and let them fuss. Sorry, said horse actually wants to turn round and kick your strange child and its bike so perhaps let me get it under control ;)

Do not mind a quiet ask and a pat.

When I worked with a four-in-hand team (years ago) tourists visiting the quaint village we were based in would stand in the middle of the lane to take photos of us while we were coming along at a spanking trot. It amazed me they didn't understand four 17hh warmbloods can't stop on a sixpence!

Her dislike of people approaching her did come in handy when some weirdo tried to grab the reins on a country lane though, so she was only protecting the pair of us!

Woah, I'd be really freaked out if someone did that to me, and I know Jock would just stand there obediently (he's a riding school pony so I'm almost certain he'd prioritise the leader's signals over the rider's:rolleyes:).

I had this taken of me today whilst doing my first canter out in an open space with my horse (had her a year now) ...

luckily it was my mum who took it as I asked her to :D

What a lovely picture! How nice you captured the moment on film (well, not likely film, but you know what I mean;)).

A couple of years ago I met a young man from China who was out for a walk in the village with a teenage girl from his 'host' family - he was a student on some sort of exchange visit. It turned out he'd never actually seen a live horse before, in the flesh, as it were, and politely asked if the girl could take a photo of him standing at my pony's head, as something to show the folks back home. So my boy might be famous in some Chinese city by now!

How sweet:)!

I can't say I've ever had that happen to me while out riding. Not sure about the field where the horses live (I'm only there 1 day a week)

However I like my photography (semi-pro) I've got a degree in photography and especially love equine photography. So if you're in Norfolk at some point you will probs see me about taking photos! Hopefully no-one would be offended!x

I adore my boy and am always happy if people want to take pictures of him. I lost count how may times we were snapped and videoed on our recent beach trip. I would love to see some of the beach video of Armas piaffing /misbehaving appear on YouTube that would be rather fun.

Was out on my big heavy horse and nearly home when a man appeared with a camera and asked if he could take a picture. We posed for a snap and then headed home. He must have tried to find out where I lived because a couple of days later at 6.00 in the morning, an envelope was pushed through my neighbours cat flap (!!!) addressed to "the lovely lady with the big smile". Inside it was the photo and a message stating "a day without a smile is a day without love" and "Jesus loves you". Very, very strange - he obviously didn't guess I am atheist ;)

Without sounding judgemental, I think it depends on who is taking the photo...

I once had a couple walking through the woods who took a photo of me and my pony, but then another time I was riding on a high street and two men in a run down old white van drove past verrry slowly and took a photo... That was worrying and had I been older/wiser I would have got my phone out and taken a photo of their van!

Yes! I agree!

My friend and I once had a VERY dodgy couple come up to us and ask us far too many questions about the horse and got quite cross when we said that he wasn't available for pony rides. However, a nice taxi driver pulled over and asked if he could bag up the horses poo if she left it by the gate :D

Like you said, it depends!

My horse is in a lot of people's wedding photos because I stable next door to a country house hotel/wedding venue :D Always happy to stop and pose. One day I was leading out three matching coloureds and some people stopped for a photo of that too.

Another day my horse and a school horse posed with a bus load of Japanese tourists which was cool.

My friend appears on the brochures for a riding holiday company- she's hacking with the company owner though so it's not weird :D

My dog poses for photos a lot, with loads of people. Again Japanese tourists when I was at university and he was visiting. And on a regular basis just out walking. He does look like a teddy bear so it's understandable :o

had a photo taken of me and Rio today when I was walking out I found it kinda awkward :o also had a woman hang out of her window and take photos of me and Taz when I was hacking on a residential street... almost thought she was going to report me to the council for something :o also me and Taz were the front page photo of a campaign to stop an area of wild grass land being made into a housing estate. I hate having my photo taken and although the last one he did ask permission I still wasn't entirely happy about it... maybe im just a miserable moo!

When I was a student at Cambridge, I used to visit the horses that were grazed on Midsummer Common over the summer in those days. (There used to be an annual Percheron show there too!) One warm, sunny day I found one of the horses lying down, so I went and sat down beside him and, when he lay flat out, had a snooze myself with my head on his neck. I think I actually dozed off because when I came to I heard muttering and clicking going on, and squinted through half-opened eyes to see a small group of Japanese tourists taking photos of us. I closed my eyes again pretending to be asleep.

It would be lovely if one of the photos turned up on somewhere like Flickr, but I imagine the chances of that are vanishingly small.

I think it depends on the person asking. Last time it happened to me, I took as a compliment... funniest thing was I was out long reining Rods. We passed a guy who was in complete awe of him, asked for a photo and was really pleasant.

Don't have a problem with that at all.

One time someone took a photo of me and a friend out hacking through the village near the yard, thought no more about it. A couple of months later I go into the pub in said village and there on the wall in a big gold frame is a nice big photo of me and my friend on our horses :) pretty surprised to say the least!
I told the pub landlord that I was in the photo and he went and printed off a copy for me, game at last! :) :)

Being both a keen rider and equally keen (amateur) photographer, I don't mind being snapped as I ride which has happened as I own possibly the cutest highland in the world (ducks behind nearest parapet to avoid reaction!!!), and sometimes get into discussions about camera gear as well as horses if the snapper is toting something interesting.

However, it's worth pointing out that anyone who's on a public right of way or in a public place can take pics of anyone or anything they like with a few restrictions around invasion of privacy. It's nice that so many of you actually get asked for permission before becoming the subject of someone's holiday snaps.

If I'm taking pics which include people I often try to get contact details such as an email address so I can pass on copies. Next time it happens, ask. Most photographers I know are only too happy to show off their work.

That's lovely!

I would love to take pics of horses in fields as I paint and it is nice to have my own pics for reference but I always thought it was a big no no and people didn't like it for security reasons. I do have some pics of horses on the beach at Ainsdale Sands though and loads from when I lived at a riding stables.

I've had lots of photo's taken of me on various horses. This one was snapped by someone as I trotted towards them. They very kindly left a copy in the gate of the yard for me.
