people that refer to horses as 'it'

if that frustrates you then obviously takes very little to annoy you :p

It dosent bother me one bit if you call a horse "it"!

Why take life so seriously? You never get out alive :D
 
Me too, but I started a thread (search for - a horse called "it") and was pretty much told to find something more important to worry about!
I don't worry about it, but I would prefer it if those that know my boy's name would use it. "It" conjures up an image of an inanimate object, not my beloved boy! :D
I'm certain that it doesn't bother him at all however, and as long as he's happy, I am happy.
 
surprisingly i dont get annoyed easily, in fact im very laid back. i dont worry about it :s
i just dont like it!
thats like calling your child 'it'! - you just wouldnt!
well - if you're anything like me and your horse is a major part of the family :D

A child is a human. A horse is an animal. You cannot hurt your horse's feelings by calling him or her 'it'. It frustrates me when people compare horses and children. When people start treating their horses like children, this is when the problems arise.
 
its not about comparing horses to children, its about how you view your horse - i view mine as part of the family so would never call her (or any other horse) 'it'

its all personal preference - and thats mine ;)
 
I discovered parents aren't v happy when u call their children 'it'. Having no children myself and not really being that into children, I once said of a friends childs 'OMG it's grown up fast!', needless to say I got some v dirty looks, personally I can';t see what all the fuss is about!

What really annoys me is when people compare a horse and a child ..... There is no comparison !!

A child is worth more than any horse .

No contest !

Really doesn't bother me in the slightest if anyone referred Missy to "it" ......Seriously !!!

Also just to clear any other misunderstandings .... I think the world of "it" she is a wonderful horse ;) .

but You can hurt the owners feelings !!! Yes problems do arise if you treat horses like some people treat their kids however itwould be better if people treated there kids like horses should be ie firm but fair.........
 
Sorry but I reserve the right to call mine “it” cos that's what it is. He/she is a hermaphrodite. He/she had a full hysterecomy (sp?) And was gelded. Hence there is no knowing whether “he”is a he or “she” is a she.

But I have to confess I think of it as a she....
 
I refer to some children as 'it' from time to time. But the difference between children/adults and animals is animals dont have a clue what you say. 'It' isnt a very offensive word and I wouldnt call peoples animals nasty names unless joking with them. Quite often I call horses 'it' if i'm not sure of the gender so its not a negative word. Doesnt offend me at all to hear it. I dont think people should be quite so sensitive.

yes but not the kidies fault that for instance the parent just looks on as its ofspring pulls things off supermarket shelves or it runs up and down shreiking ...maybe they get it out of there system at a early age or perhaps there the ones at 16 in a pool of vomit at 2am on a sunday morning because chav mummy or daddy
coudent be "bovvverrrrd" to help there ofspring learn how to behave...

So what your trying to say is that my 5 year old just the other day wanted a toy .... I told him couldn't have it and off he went screaming down the isle throwing a paddy .

Sooo .... What your saying is that once he reaches 16 he will be laying in a pool of his own vomit at 2am .... because he threw a temper tantrum as a 5 year old ?
I shall just hand him over to the police now .... save any bother ....oh yes and stick him into AA whilst I'm at it . ;)

I agree with the way that SOME kids behave nowadays, mostly I am shocked by their lack of basic manners. I hear at least a dozen times a day 'Miss, I need a pen'. What happened to Ps and Qs? And why aren't they equipped with the most basic equipment?

But back to the initial point, I personally don't like calling my horses 'it'. An ex used to do that and it drove me mad! But each to their own.

No, seriously... I used to find it weird, too. But over time started doing it myself!!! Especially when I didn't know (from afar) whether it was a he or a she...
 
I sometimes refer to my own horse as 'it' but only in a jokeing sense, for example ''it needs a bullet'' :D

But I wouldnt refer to someone elses horse as in it in a serious convo, like ''when was it last shod?'' having said that I wouldnt be bothered if someone else said that to me, infact I doubt I'd even notice. :o:)
 
I haven't read other posts and no doubt you'll get the folks that say they're not gonna understand but I hate ' it'. I think its disrespectful to an animal who tries hard to please and does our bidding.

IMO IT should be kept for inanimate objects only.
 
i call my horse all sort of expletives inc it :o
she has no idea though - i can call her a f'ing cowbag in the right tone and she still thinks she's being praised lol!
i really have no problem with 'it'
and yup = i call most children 'it' too - scarey ankle biting things.... ;)
 
I regularly refer to children as it so I can't really take offence at someone calling my horse it....to be honest at times it's the most polite thing to call it.
 
I would be offended a little if someone who new the sex of my mare called her "it", but if I,m honest there are a few people in this world who I refer to as "it".:eek:
